The Mali District Youth Council had completed a one-day cross rally event, aimed at empowering and mobilizing youths to become agents of change in their communities. This event was a direct outcome of the successful Macuata Provincial Youth Forum, where the importance of youth participation and leadership was highlighted.

The rally, organized by the Mali District Youth Council, served as a dynamic platform for youths to share lessons learned, success stories, and the challenges they face today. The event fostered a sense of unity and purpose among participants.

Mr. Pita Balebau, Mali District Youth Leader, commented on the impact of the rally: "The Mali Youth Rally was a platform to advocate drug and HIV/AIDS awareness to the youth of Mali and share challenges with other youth groups from Labasa, Wailevu, and Bucaisau."

When asked for his advice on youth empowerment and leadership roles, Mr. Balebau said, "Youth leadership for tomorrow is today and right now. Our youths need to make a stand, become agents of change, and take on more responsibility in their respective societies. My plan is to ensure a well-governed system is in place for effective youth participation from the village, district, and right up to the provincial level. Our platform will continue to support youth rallies as a means of advocacy."

A robust programme was planned for the day, including fellowship activities, spiritual reflections, sing-alongs, and personal testimonies. Special invited guests played a crucial role in raising awareness and building capacity, with support from community policing, the Ministry of Health, Medical Services Pacific (MSP), the Macuata Provincial Council, WWF-Pacific, and a concluding sermon by the Mali District Pastor.

In addition to these activities, the cross rally provided an opportunity for youths to reconnect with nature through coastal clean-up efforts, rubbish collection, and mangrove planting. This hands-on engagement with the environment not only enhanced their understanding of ecological issues but also empowered them to be part of the solution.

Mr.Semi Sauliga, WWF Pacific Macuata Project Field Officer, expressed his support: "It's quite exciting to see youth participation and being part of decision-making. We need great leaders of tomorrow to drive positive impacts within the Province of Macuata.  We fully support youth driving positive changes and addressing some of the social ills and public health issues in our community. When youths are motivated to drive changes affecting their lives, conservation work and development engagement will naturally fall into place.

"WWF is strongly supporting youth empowerment programmes and capacity building at all levels as youths will be operationalizing some of the management plans and initiatives that are being spearheaded by these communities."

This event marked a significant milestone, highlighting the voices, concerns, and solutions that young people bring to the table. It underscored the potential of youth and community engagement in driving meaningful change and highlighted the collective effort needed to create a sustainable future.
