WWF-Pacific Launches Children’s E-Storybook Promoting Crew Safety as a Human Right.
Suva, Fiji - WWF-Pacific today proudly launched its latest children’s e-storybook, Ana and Vili’s Adventures: Safety at Sea is a Human Right, designed to educate young readers about the challenges faced by fishing crew and the importance of ensuring safe and fair working conditions at sea.

Through the adventures of siblings Ana and Vili, the story introduces key themes such as the role of personal protective equipment (PPE), the realities of longline fishing, and the human rights of fishing crew. This engaging and accessible narrative is aimed at fostering awareness and inspiring change within families and communities.

“This storybook is a powerful tool for creating awareness of the hardships and risks fishing crew endure,” said WWF-Fiji Interim Conservation Programme Manager, Duncan Williams. “By educating our children today, we are planting the seeds for a more compassionate and responsible future for the fisheries sector.”

The book was developed in partnership with the Pacific Community’s (SPC) Educational Quality and Assessment Programme (EQAP), which played a key role in editing and grading the content. The launch also honors the late Mere Vadei, who led SPC EQAP’s involvement and whose dedication to education made this project possible. The book is lovingly dedicated to her memory.

The e-storybook is part of WWF-Pacific’s efforts to address issues of Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and to promote crew safety as a fundamental human right and is targted for sixth graders.
