PACIFIC
The blue Pacific is the world’s largest oceanic continent. It cannot be seen in any other way than a vast ’sea of islands’ connected by an ocean of resources, sustained through collective and shared stewardship of communities across the Pacific.

As you journey across the blue Pacific and through the regions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, you traverse an expanse of 165,250,000 square kilometers—an area greater than the size of all seven continents combined, covering 30% of Planet Earth.

Despite our massive size, the ocean connects all the Pacific island countries, making us large oceanic states. This connectivity has provided routes for migration and trade between islands and countries over miles and millennia, holding the key to meeting all basic needs. Our islands have a unique connection to land and sea, and we continue to build on knowledge and practices formed many generations ago to address modern challenges. This is why we work regionally; addressing the scale of challenges jointly as a region harnesses our collective capacity. Together, our voice is louder, our actions are bolder, and our resilience is stronger.

WWF-PACIFIC

WWF’s work in the Pacific spans three countries with offices in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Fiji, where our regional hub is based in Suva. Since the mid 1990s we have been working hand in hand with local partners and communities to protect and restore the region's astonishing natural heritage, relied upon by millions of people for food, water, livelihoods and protection from climate change. The impacts of effective conservation in this trio of Big Oceanic States extend far beyond their geographic boundaries.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?
WWF-Pacific is working towards a People and Nature Positive Pacific.

This looks like a future where all Pacific peoples and nations are empowered, climate resilient and propsperous, with nature thriving and visibly and measurably recovering.

Building on our three decades of work across Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, with our regional hub based in Suva, we continue to support Pacific communities and their livelihoods, traditional practices and cultures while halting and reversing nature loss, measured from 2020 levels, by increasing the health, abundance, diversity, and resilience of species, populations, and ecosystems.
